Hacker news for recipes would feature a lot of uninformed talk about (everything but recipes) and no talk about recipes

Just like the rest of the internet.

Close. This is “wordpress for recipes”. People post their own and they stay on cookpad. I want HN of recipes. People post links to recipes they find and talk about them. Goodreads might be a better model thiugh, but same applies. Goodreads does not have the books.

I think you’re on to something here and HN or Reddit is the right model for recipes (not Stack Overflow as that is Q&A)
-
Right? There is definitely a discoverability and review problem in recipes. I don't want recipes crowd sourced because y'all suck. I want that recipe from the pro chef working at big publication, and then have people tell me about it and talk about it.

Hacker News is actually a good metaphor here because you'd see a lot of "I could make that over a weekend" comments.

The pizza reddit is fairly heavy on original research

I use Yummly for my recipe needs. It's pretty spot on and if you do a moderate amount of cooking, you'll find recipes you like. I also like it because most recipes have photos.
