I've been obsessively reading up on the "Lead Causes Crime" research and: Lead causing damage to the ACC of the brain--if conclusively true--destroys a massive amount of ideology for both conservative *and* liberal views of crime/poverty.
In fact, I could see Lead-Crime being used suddenly to denounce and justify all kinds of policies in good and bad ways. For example, if this kind of brain damage causes crime then you can simultaneously claim criminals can't be rehabilitated and that it's not their fault.
If you show that lead damage to the ACC of the brain causes drug addiction, then the moral stance for outlawing drugs (but not lead production) becomes invalid as well. Even the idea that people are violent because they're poor is now highly questionable.
There could *even* be a recasting of hippie culture from the 60s and 70s. Instead of "they heroically changed the world for the better" we could now say "they were just like other crazy lead poisoned kids, they had the money and education to stay out of jail."
