I say this because I get asked all the time what it's like and how I did it, and I think it's because I don't do it for religious reasons. I chose not to and just...didn't do it. For people who do drugs this experience of mine is totally foreign, so I wonder if there's interest

The "non-propaganda" aspect of it is I wouldn't write something like "don't do drugs kids", but rather just an essay on how I did it, what problems I encounter from it, what it feels like emotionally, how it feels physically, etc. A lot like how addiction is described.

Its not alien. I mean I did every drug known to man in my 20s. But like I remember before that. And its kind of like after that.

A lot of people became addicted even as young as 11 so have no concept of what being a sober adult is like. Also people’s memories are incredibly faulty so I think you actually don’t really remember it like you do.

Wouldn’t thinking that your experience is totally special and unique and that you can’t learn anything from someone else be classic addict thinking? (“your” not being you specifically).

Yeah no. I’ve found addicts spend a lot of time pushing false equivalence ideas like “i like working AND heroin therefore they’re the same” when they are radically different and the substance matters a hell of a lot.

I definitely think there is value to such an essay, showing alternative ways of living and what that’s like is always interesting and inspiring

Like you never even started drinking alcohol (or smoking or whatever) or you stopped doing it at 30?

I don't know if it makes a difference, it feels like it should...
