The four places I painted while in California last month. Monterey, Pacifica, Santa Monica, and Yosemite. I did videos of all of them and I think I can get the first one up sometime today to test my new hosting code I cobbled together. More in thread:pic.twitter.com/OL0SNwDVKw

This is another of the Santa Monica Pier but from above and painted direct with no drawing. All of these are about 30-40 minutes and 6x8.pic.twitter.com/BFPsaeCzeU

I also did this one of the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco but I don’t really like it that much. The light on my canvas kept changing so my values are all weird. Could be used for a larger painting though.pic.twitter.com/5i1BSeO8WM

As my old art teachers used to say, "art is more about the feeling the viewer gets from a piece than technical 'perfection'". It's possible to paint something completely photo-realistic that leaves the viewer feel cold and empty. For example, anything by Thomas Kincaid...

I know that, but I think you also missed the whole part of my thread about the viewer's perception of the artist influencing what they think of the art. Forgeries are great examples of this effect.

For instance, not many people know that Steve Ditko, 1/2 of the team that created Spider-Man, was an ardent Objectivist... those that do tend to be more critical of his work than if they just looked at those early Spidey comics.

I have experienced a similar thing when I do nudes. I think it's some sort of expectation of intellectual men as being asexual, but if I post a fairly normal nude painting I'd get yelled at, but if my alter ego did it I get rave reviews.

It's easier to keep politics out of code than it is to keep them out of art... depending on the artist, it can sometimes be impossible. Never personally felt that someone's work was invalidated by their point of view, but many do.

Nah, saw that. I agree, if someone thinks of the artist and not the piece itself, they may be biased... it's part of why I got out of art in the first place. Ironically, it's hard to earn a living as an artist if people know you're not a leftist.
