Would you say there is such a thing as fine art illustration? As in, art sold in traditional galleries, but tells a story and/or has illustrative qualities?

I have been thinking about paintings like these and how they tell stories, but all I seem to hear about my own work is: "you should illustrate children's books" and I honestly don't think it's for me. I barely have enough time to paint as it is
If you want I can find some schools where the teacher does these kinds of paintings. Not sure in Missouri, but I do know a few in other places. Another thing to do is try copying some of the old allegory paintings to get an idea of how it's done. Key is symbols and entendre.
