The majority of these "facial flaws" are actually just correcting lighting and lens distortion from shitty selfie cameras. In one instance the dude looks like a straight up model and this guy just adds a smile and changes the lighting, which is not a "flaw". https://twitter.com/LaFilouterie/status/1112096866483744773 …

In two instances the face is distorted in a way that would be incredibly unhealthy in a human, such that if I painted a portrait like that it'd be seen as amateurish. First one he gives the guy a lobotomy by lopping off the top 1/4th of his skull, but it's just lens distorted.

Another time he takes cheek bones that literally hold in your eyes and removes them. Most of the changes that do apply to bone structure are to add insanely huge jaw bones that if you saw in person you'd think looked super weird or fake, but are also just lens and camera angles.

The one thing to keep in mind about people who "fix" facial flaws is they usually have zero background in anatomy at all, and wouldn't know the difference between a 35mm and a 250mm lens distortion at all. They're mostly cartoonists and photoshop jockies with no real training.

The second thing to keep in mind about any artist analyzing facial structure from a 2D photo is that they are not looking at the real person's bones so can't make any real determination. Sculls are 3D and cameras suck unless they're really good.

The final thing to remember is this: NO ARTIST THAT PAINTS A HEAD FROM LIFE IS ACCURATE. I straight up challenge anyone to this. I've painted hundreds and hundreds of heads and seen people way better than anyone do the same and universally the final result is not "accurate".

The good portrait painters will get close enough that the average person can't tell (or they just use a photo with a 85mm portrait lens), but if you're trained you can easily see where the real person and the portrait differs, and this is on *every single painting*.

So if the very best portrait painters in the *world* can't accurately paint a portrait from life--with the real head of that person there and 3-10 hours--then how the hell is some jackass on Twitter with photoshop and no medical training supposedly doing better?
