Find a local community college or art center that offers woodworking classes and has a full shop with safety equipment. It helps if you have a small thing you would like to build at the end, but sort of doesn't matter. A good shop will hammer home safety over and over again.

Another option is to find someone who makes what you want to make and then just ask if you can help them for free doing dumb crap like cleaning the shop and setting up tools in exchange for an hour of lessons a day. That probably takes too much time though.
