You know if that Arkansas senator decided to cut teacher's pay if they don't improve reading we'd have a never ending stream of strikes and teacher's union PR trying to get this guy fired. But, punish some poor kids for the documented failing of teachers and..silence.

And if you read that and think I'm a conservative because I hate teacher's unions then you have two problems: 1. You believe that anyone criticizing any union is "the enemy". 2. An "us vs. them" mentality makes you a fucking fascist not a progressive.

The levels of dogma in teaching approach that of programming. Which is quite the indictment. I built software for a children’s non-fiction publisher for a while. Saw some amazing battles of reason / anti-reason.

I think what's worse is the dogma seems to harm children for the rest of their life while at the same time mostly keeping terrible teachers in their job where they can continue to harm teachers.
