I've been slowly designing the most ambient soundscape pedal setup I can for some music I want to do and there's some pedals these days are amazing. I got a Line 6 HX stomp, a PLUS Pedal, and a SourceAudio MIDI expression pedal. Just that seems to give me nearly everything.
The Plus Pedal is soooooooooooooooo fucking good: https://www.gamechangeraudio.com/ It's basically like the sustain pedal on a piano, but with more options and useful for anything you can plug into the 1/4" jacks. Definitely get the wet switch for it and run it stereo.
The HX stomp is basically all the DSP audio sounds found in the bigger Line 6 HX line, but in a tiny stomp box: https://line6.com/hx-stomp/ My *only* complaint is their MIDI support is good, but it needs 2 channel MIDI support for a reason:
This isn't a criticism of Line 6, but just MIDI in general. You can only tell a MIDI device to listen to 1 channel for everything, so you are screwed for a lot of situations. For example, if you want the midi timing and switching, but then want a expression pedal, you're stuck.
The reason this is necessary is, I'd want to have one channel to control say my looper with the expression pedal, then another channel to control the HX stomp, and then a channel for the midi sync for everything. As it is now, when I use the exp it controls all the devices.
The Source Audio Reflex is actually kind of old: https://www.sourceaudio.net/reflex-expression-controller.html … But it's sort of the only MIDI foot pedal that has the options you need. It does 3 EXP ports (ring/tip on each), MIDI EXP output, *and* you can pick the curve and sweep range for each.
Then, the Plus Pedal has this great send-return feature that *only* works on the sustain (wet) part of the signal, and of course I have to run that through my favorite bit mangler noise machine, the WMD Geiger counter: https://wmdevices.com/products/geiger-counter … Love that thing but it bleeds ears.
