Normally I shield the back of the pickguard and the cavity where all the electronics are, but that's with pickups that don't have a pre-amp. With a pre-amp it looks like all the shielding was shorting out and connecting things that didn't need to be connected.

I also have a string ground (that's a wire connecting the strings to the ground on the output cable) but I seriously doubt if that's even needed. It's fine but if the strings touch the pickup poles it shorts out the amp, so if it's not needed then it's better to cut it.
