Magnetism was already discovered 2500 years ago in India. And it was posible to made a thin pieces of copper or iron as wires. So it is possible to make : 1. Electric motor and generator. 2. I should say, making a magnet *strong enough* for usefulness by rubbing probably takes too long, but finding one should be possible?

Well, the magnetization process more or less would be like the modern method, by heating the metal to the highest temperature that I could get just before it melted down, and then let it cool beside the existing magnetized metal.

I think I could do that with the medieval metalworking technology here in Indonesia. We already had bronzeware and ironware, bronze and iron statue, metal weapon and metal necklace (I would made that into electric cables) since 1st century AD.
