With any game, especially ones that drive the graphics, the first thing I ask is: Does it have an in-game benchmark I can automate? I'm amazed so few game devs even think about this. A good benchmark promotes the game through the tech press repeatedly

Can understand value of use for press and test, though is a non-trivial thing. you need predictable,repeatable,workload. decouple all systems from wallclock to virtual clock, have measurement discipline across multiple freq cores, gpu, etc. spoke more to this at gdc 1999 iirc(?)
