@daveweigel @NationofChange if this photo is as advertised, it's maybe the lowest I've felt, in my lifetime, of my countrymen.

I really wish it wasn't - but it is. I'll have a fuller piece in Nation of Change Sunday/Monday.

Please tell me you know who he is and that he's on?

He didn't want to be interviewed after. He's "ok" but he was quite injured.

On Sunday he was interviewed by NBC, the LA Times, HBO and myself. (There were others as well).

Did anyone do anything about this, or just snap a photo for journalistic purposes? On the surface, looks like cowardice all the way around.

What exactly would you like me to have done? Take on 7 people with poles? Also right after this someone pulled a gun. I only carry cameras.

It is because of this photo these attackers can be identified. I applaud the cameraman.

Several sites will be posting a fuller set of photos tomorrow. I'll retweet them when they post. I'm trying to keep this story alive.

Am I the only one wondering why you did not try to get this young man some help?

I did try, I took the photo and after I had a gun pulled on me and on Deandre's friends and then looked for police officers and told them

But if I didn't take this photo he still would have been attacked but would have had no evidence of the attack.
