Wow, Dead Cells is really good at making dying over and over again feeling non-frustrating. It keeps giving me smaller goals, so a run can feel like a success even though I'll inevitably die hundreds of times more before I beat this game.

its also because it restarts soooo quickly. its the difference between so many "hard" games feeling unfun. my rule is if you expect the player to restart a lot /please/ don't have a loading screen or a timer (looking at you donkey kong returns time trials,)

I found it a bit too meh when you had longer runs, as you either were gimped and were slowly losing, or went well into new content in which you suddenly just die without knowing why. It might have improved since Early Access, of course, but the length of a run felt too long.

I'm OK with it, I always seem to progress toward unlocking a new weapon, finding something new in the world, or other nice stuff. I didn't play it in the Early Access days, so no idea how much it changed.

It was indeed quite fun in the beginning, figuring out the systems and getting better at it incrementally.

(Steam timer says 33h, so take rants with a bit of jadedness)
