'have an application that can run everywhere without having to know anything about the underlying OS? What a time to be alive!' I don't read this with the emotion the author intended. and im a bit conflicted about that.

In our line of work it sure isn’t a good thing, but for a fairly large chunk of applications it’s more than fine :)

true! i keep trying and failing to drink the docker koolaid:( it cracks a hard nut better than anything else, but what an ugly hammer! a full Linux kernel + glue + virtualization to run a (oft) tiny program because software packaging is hard? it pushes my grumpiest buttons

You'd love the footprint of my blog. It's around 3.5 gigabytes and involves an Ubuntu 16.04 image because that's the only thing the blog software vendor supports. :D

Some Day[TM] I'll replace it with some static site generator once I manage to get the posts out and can power through the disgust for anything tangentially related to web tech :)

FWIW I’m very happy with Pelican. Yanking the posts out of the database was by far the most annoying part.

Thanks for the tip, doesn't seem too horrible. Now I just need to hack up a tool to extract the existing posts from a nice megablob of JSON, and I'll be all set.

Took the opportunity to pick up enough Rust to mangle the JSON into separate Markdown documents and I now have a properly generated blog that doesn't look _too_ bad. Thanks @LiaSae for the recommendation. \o/
