Depression isn't just "being sad". It's feeling muted. It's feeling gray. There is room for laughter in there. And yes, laughter can help. However, this absolutist statement of yours shows me that you have a lot to learn. Perhaps educate yourself a bit more.

That’s...not at all true and it leads to people thinking (erroneously) that depression looks one way. It doesn’t. You can be severely depressed and laugh every day. Joy and depression and and do coexist. One is an emotion, the other is a disorder.
