Yup, I definitely saw that back then. It was one of several inspirations. Digg’s deprecation effort (old Digg) was another.

I have to think about if there is enough to write about. There are some funny and interesting elements to it, but it was much more spur of the moment. Sorta like the “Actually Good” tab we did in response to the Onion. Maybe at some point, I’ll write about a few of the pranks.

How in the holy hell could any browser developer think its ok to treat a null img tag, <img></img> as an self-refering iframe? That dev's commit rights should have been removed with a hammer.

The code leaks from the early 2000s were pre indexed with glimpse. Though I'm sure at that time they would have used sourcesafe over git, if anything.
