I'm actually going to bite this bullet. Like, you know, not deterministically linked, but correlated. Someone like me who couldn't think the same kind of thoughts would be living an impoverished, less-valuable life—just like I'm living a less-valuable life than my IQ 180 analogue

To be clear, the "just like I'M less valuable ..." part is REALLY IMPORTANT. The reason people are so suspicious of the kind of research that
@charlesmurray does is because they suspect that it's just a complicated rationalization for protecting the speaker's power & privilege. -

Why would that help? The map is not the territory! I'm saying that cognitive abilities are morally valuable, and I wish I had more of them, using "IQ 180" as a metonym—but moral value is not defined in terms of what our existing civilization sort-of-kind-of knows how to measure

Even if this is your underlying axiology, I think it overall builds a better society if we don't try to work out which people are more morally valuable.

I get what you mean, but "let's not think about this" has never worked out well for us. For example, most people are currently not thinking about what the moral worth of animals is, for much the same reason. Think of the horror if it turns out it's much higher than we thought!

We tend to fall into the trap of considering intelligence to one dimension. We like this because unambiguous ranking is possible. But this is just an approximation which is increasingly invalid for more standard deviations from the mean.

The IQ, I'd submit, does NOT lend the morality to Hawkins. It makes him very lucky.
OTOH,one COULD make the case that Hawkins overcame extraordinary obstacles, worked hard,did great good..all reflections of morality. -
