Call-Back Economic Indicator: Randomly contact 100 SMBs/month and tell them you want to buy what they're selling. Measure how long it takes them to follow up, or if they follow up at all. Tracked over time, this would be a fantastic indicator of the economy.
This is an unpopular thing to say but I think it’s indicative of US business in general. I tried making products in the US for years. Had to go to Taiwan because I couldn’t get basic level of responsiveness from machine shops. Responsiveness is a competitive advantage today.

Man, that's unfortunate. Although I have to tell you that getting a call back in 2010 happened a heck of a lot quicker.

100% agree with Zack. I tried to switch our manufacturing to the US and the call back percentage was tiny, then any follow up calls or emails completely dropped off.
