Something I’ve learned: candor isn’t about being 100% honest or transparent with someone when you think they need to hear it. It’s about saying the hard thing in the right way - and at the right time - so that they can actually receive it. Otherwise, it’s just (your) ego at work.
(mastery of this is when timing falls out of the equation and you are almost always able to skillfully deliver the message immediately)
Unfortunately, it's also not about your intent - people will choose to receive your feedback in whichever way they choose (most of the time, personally)... regardless if you meant and delivered it well.
