      Critics who think Amazon is killing retail should talk to the millions of businesses/products that were rejected by retail gatekeepers and only exist today because of Amazon’s ‘infinite shelf space.’

      The first (true) point is that Amazon's extremely long tail of selection massively increases the audience for *existing* niche goods. Books, home & kitchen, etc. Casual browsing experience isn't great, but if you vaguely know what you want, you can find it & get it in 2 days

      The (almost certainly not) true point: Amazon is NOT large enough to create lots of new opportunities for manufacturers to sell *new* products at a scale relevant to business. Anything worth selling is something they can get a regional retailer to try. Just do the math.

      I personally know multiple seven-figure, pure-Amazon businesses that sell products you can't find (and will never find) at a regional retailer.

      I can’t (Amazon is highly competitive and everyone is worried about clones). Zero brick and mortar presence - and not because of gatekeepers. Large number of SKUs, relatively low volume on each - not enough geographically-concentrated demand to work in brick & mortar.
