It delivers huge value to many.
Facebook’s situation makes more sense when you realize that people already hated Facebook - this just gave them a conscious reason. People unconsciously hate FB because it’s the only product they voluntarily use extensively that delivers ~zero value.

I agree that there's a lot wrong w FB but this platform has allowed me to stay in touch w/ friends, and family (spread out over 10 countries, 5 continents) in ways we never were before, and for that I'm grateful. We're all being more careful, but we're not leaving yet.

Scarily, "voluntarily use" might be a stretch. It feels to me more like people rebelling against the dopamine machine that they're involuntarily addicted to.
