That’s assuming that the average person would have access to - and then do a good job picking - winners amongst very early stage startups. Would be surprised if the average angel investor returned 4x, which is possible w Amazon.

Fair, but I’m guessing angels aren’t investing with the hope of getting 4x. They’re doing it with the hope of going big or going home, but I get your point
