You can set it to allow calls from everyone even when Do Not Disturb is on https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204321
Apple designers made it impossible to tell if Do Not Disturb mode is on, which is great because it makes me accidentally ignore 90% of phone calls. They think of everything.

I really wanted the X, but I just got the 8 and decided to wait for the next iteration of the X. The geek in me is dying, but I feel I’ve made the right choice, the 8 is practically perfect.
