Why not just clearly mark that a tweet has been edited and show a change log? FB does that and it works fine
Edit won't work because people can change meaning afterwards, and most won't delete tweets that go viral. Solution is letting original poster mark tweet as false/disproven, shows up as different color in newsfeed.https://twitter.com/NumbersMuncher/status/914309680444342272 …

Twitter is a shitshow, much less civilized. Likelihood of people completely changing original tweet much higher.
