Big pharma R&D is 17% of revenue. How would lowering drug prices and potentially taking over some patents "nuke the entire pharma pipeline?" If you prefer unfettered capitalism, just say it. :)

“Taking over some patents” will make R&D go to zero. How will companies justify multi-year, multi-billion dollar R&D projects when the resulting patent might be “taken over”?

I think the argument is much stronger than you make it out to be; almost every other country has cheaper drug prices than the US (with the US paying the R&D tax), and if we lowered our prices, it’s unclear what would happen to research from other countries

This discussion has nothing to do with lowering prices - it has to do with selectively nullifying patents.

Ha. The only way to make the patent system worse is to put a dictator on top of it. And when it comes to drugs, I think it would be difficult to eliminate all patents without also eliminating the FDA - but I could be wrong on that.

IDK, there should be something called "responsible patent ownership". If you own a critical patent on some technology that can help humanity, you may take your fair share for inventing it but better not get too greedy. Your invention relied on a lot of public infrastructure.

There could even be a government body that determines what is fair - it could be appointed by the president, and anyone who is “”unfair”” would have their patents seized. What could go wrong?

I usually agree with 90%+ of your tweets. Can’t believe your’re pro current drug patent laws that are simply protectionist and anti-competition. I invite you to read more on this, i bet you will change your mind.
