There is a mindset in San Francisco that hears discussion of vehicle break-ins and whose chief response is to worry about the negative impact on criminals. This is a synecdoche of what's wrong with San Francisco.

There's an assumption that these cars belong to "rich" people, which is a shitty argument *and* factually baseless. People who park on the street by necessity tend to belong to SF's shrinking middle class, folks who don't have a garage & can't pay $400+/month for a space in one
