      One reason we built that feature is that people often didn’t believe we were giving them the fastest route, and thought we were missing their special shortcut. For popular routes, we show this so they know we took it into account.

      Does this psychological effect have a name, where people value more things they know a lot about? Seems like a cousin of the fact that people are more compliant with rules, or less annoyed by waiting lines, when provided an explanation for them.
