Assuming you’re arguing to let the free market determine prices it would still kick out a bunch of ppl who should have the option to live there. Why not focus on increasing housing supply (at least in SF) while maintaining rent control. That way you don’t fuck over poor people

Rent control in San Francisco did not lower rental prices but had the opposite effect. The law instead increased rental prices in the long run.
That’s the finding of a new AER paper by Rebecca Diamond, Tim McQuade and Franklin Qian.
