It's fascinating to see how this nuanced piece irritated so many people on all sides. I can't tell if your tweet is genuine or not. If you want someone to explain what the author's concern about Rogan is, lmk and I'd be happy to take a shot at explaining it.

I don't listen to Joe Rogan or Jordan Peterson. I just find this genre of passive aggressive, nonspecific-disapproval journalism funny.

They don’t - they hate his audience and can’t differentiate between the two.

A possible reading is that this author likes Joe and doesn't even feel guilty about it, but knows that in order to persuade Atlantic readers to JRE a shot, he needs to couch his recommendation in multiple layers of rhetorical distancing and disavowal

Heard it put this way: Peterson(& Rogan) r outside their status heirarchy. MSM seeks to be the gatekeepers of opinion, which makes JP & JR an existential threat - because they are resilient to their criticism.

Almost all of these long-form profile pieces (New Yorker, Atlantic, Vanity Fair) seem incentivized to paint a slightly disingenuous picture of the person - it reads/sells much better. It's rare to get what feels like a truly objective piece.
