"What I prefer to see... is a founder who takes time while they're not raising $ to build relationships w/ potential [VCs] & engages those [VCs] in a process when it is time to raise $." - @fredwilson https://avc.com/2019/08/the-long-engagement/ … This is what VCs prefer, but those days feel over.

the problem is that the scenario is usually more like “i’ve never had a date in my life and a hot, brilliant rocket scientist from a great family just proposed to me but i have to decide by tomorrow otherwise i might never find love again and oh they might be a sociopath”

Hah, yeah. That's a diff situation than what I had in mind. The scenario I was thinking of is when people create a process that, from start to finish, fits into <=2 weeks. There's benefit (for both sides) in taking more time to pick a long-term partner.https://twitter.com/lpolovets/status/1163233362665852928 …

Sure, but I don't get the recent phenomenon of "we started raising Monday and there's lots of interest, so we're trying to close by Friday."

My take: founders are too busy for us VCs to deserve their speculative relationship-building time. Yes, we love getting to know founders as early as possible, though we are also willing to invest as early as possible. I love waiting for a bank account to open so we can wire.
