A lot of people advise against learning openings too early, but Yasser Seirawan’s book “Winning Chess Openings” is a great start. Helps beginners understand by example the basic themes and goals in the openings.

This was my first chess book, and it was exciting to me as a kid to then be able to look at Grabdmaster games and quickly identify the opening, and made me interested to analyze further
