Because those vehicles would be needed anyway to deliver non-junk mail, but it’s the junk mail that pays for them?

No vehicles would be needed if there were no post office.

1. Allow competitors to provide all the same services 2. Have USPS fund itself via user fees that reflect the true costs of delivery, rather than subsidies Those two things wouldn't "abolish" the USPS but it would force it to play by the same rules as everyone else

The USPS would be profitable if not for Congress meddling with its operations. Even with declining First Class volume, it makes a good bit of money operating as the "last mile" in the great online product supply chain. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-postal-service-is-operating-at-a-profit/2018/04/26/1300cfa6-48b2-11e8-8082-105a446d19b8_story.html … https://about.usps.com/news/national-releases/2018/pr18_093.htm …

Until the health system fixes their need for paper mail 100p there is no way of fixing this problem imo. I know there are companies that are fixing the problem but there is plenty more to go with the speed of the health system... I’d say my mail is medical receipts and junk mail.

Making paper mail 10x more expensive seems to be a good way to nudge the health system along.

I’m fine with the Post Office, just not fine with the government-granted monopoly or the mandated equal rates to all locations.

I know a mailman pretty well. He can finish his route in 2 hours but he has to take 8 or the other mailmen get pissed at him. Their trucks are being tracked by GPS though, so he has to pretend to be driving the route. Stops by a few cafes on the route for 15 mins at a time, etc.

Man his GPS footprint would be so great for local deliveries side hustle
