Something that continues to surprise me: the correlations between success, writing, and public speaking are weak. Someone can be a great podcast guest but a poor writer, or an amazing scientist but a boring public speaker.

This assumption of correlated skill levels actually seems quite dangerous in politics and business. E.g. people assume that if someone is high on the likability scale or a great public speaker, then they will also be a great leader or decision maker. That's not necessarily true.

I don’t listen to political speeches for this reason. Have never watched a Bush/Obama/Trump speech, except small clips by accident.
