The best part of the Uber IPO is watching journalists puzzle over why venture capitalists continue to fund revenue-generating startups, instead pursuing vague ideas that journalists think are important, like making the rich poor and electing their personal favorite politicians. https://twitter.com/CNBCtech/status/1127191765432377345 …pic.twitter.com/iiwKDpEdUY

Should revenue generating be the only measure?

No. Typically investors are (or should be) focusing on the ability to increase value per share over time.

“Revenue generating” lol. Selling dollars for 50 cents somehow is an attractive proposition for people.

The Uber IPO headlines were insane. Seriously felt like deceit-as-a-service.

Also about sundry important people bemoaning how they missed hundreds of millions of dollars by not investing when Travis or Garett were literally begging them to

The expectation of altruism in the private sector is even more incredulous than the expectation of that in general. (That goodness is rare in life is sad, that corporations, even “idealistic ones”, are profit-maximizing is basic economics.)

So much wrong with that quote but to call über a ‘relatively small’ idea is supreme ignorance. The invention of the low-transaction-cost gig-economy is the biggest economic innovation since mass-production. Can she really not see that?

Public transit with good city planning is obviously better than ride hailing, and location based tech is a commodity, networks ready to be broken apart by decentralization but please go on
