How much risk does Amazon take on by selling the "name brand" products vs. Walmart? To get the sales data to develop private label, Walmart needs skin in the game. Amazon does not.

Amazon is selling about $300 Billion per year now so $25B in 2022 would not be a lot. Walmart has house brands. Ikea is built on house brands. Sears had at least Kenmore and Craftsman as house brands for decades.

Kirkland is the biggest Private Label on earth ($40B). Will Costco be only “umpire” now? PL is good for customers except if: (1) you can afford & want to pay more for national brands, or (2) you’re a wily politician who wants to misconstrue to win voteshttps://twitter.com/stratelogical/status/1084614058974818304 …

This is comparing apples and oranges. The dichotomy is that companies can either be a marketplace that lists 3rd party sellers OR a marketplace where they sell only their own items / their own inventory. Kirkland / Costco clearly falls into the 2nd bucket.

Costco, but I would have never imagined that over 30% of Costco’s sales come from private label (Kirkland brand). That is a $46B/yr. Unbelievable!
