TPS >> Lean Six Sigma methodology. For a good read, I'd start with "The Goal":https://www.amazon.com/Goal-Process-Ongoing-Improvement/dp/0884271951 …

Loved The Goal. When it comes to TPS, I'm starting with this on multiple recommendations:https://www.amazon.com/Toyota-Production-System-Beyond-Large-Scale/dp/0915299143 …

Heard good things about Toyota Kata, but haven’t read it myself. Toyota Way seems to be brought up a lot. Gotta think The Goal, and any of Goldratt’s other books are up there even though they aren’t specific to Toyota. Beyond the Goal + Critical Chain are very good.

Books are OK, but the *deep* understanding of the Toyota Production System you seek (or of anything, really) can't be obtained that way. It takes doing. Read buttons 1-5 on the Toyota Kata website http://www.tinyurl.com/T-Kata for some insight into the invisible managerial part of TPS.

I preferred Taichi Ohno when I read all of the TPS books... Shingo after that...https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/376237.Toyota_Production_System …

I found The Toyota Way very useful too.

It depends. If you're wanting to deep dive and understand the culture, environment it evolved in and history then you should start with Taiichi Ohno's book. Beyond that, for getting into the what and how, the other books recommended are good.

Might as well go right to the source with Taiichi Ohno's writings — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiichi_Ohno …
