1/ This is an excellent read.
Although there’s a bit of conjecture presented as fact (e.g. in tweet below), @zackkanter rightly articulates the same worries that I have for Amazon - the addictive $ from ads, and the lack of nuance between high vs. low ticket items.https://twitter.com/zackkanter/status/1106007388048375809 …

Thanks! I thoroughly enjoyed reading your 6,750 words. I remember your Amazon TC article from few years ago, and thought that was excellent too. Your analysis is better than many people inside the company (yours truly included)
Hope to see more! Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Is advertising the wrong framing? If we call it "trade spend," then it's just dollars shifting from the endcaps and slotting fees at supermarkets to a digital marketplace. I find it incredibly customer-friendly (I guess that's an unpopular opinion).

don’t think it’s framing. As Zack wrote, it’s balancing CX when ads look like search results & is open to all. It favors savvy marketers at best or bad actors at worst. If ads were best for customers why do we need search results, just show ads as result of search query right?pic.twitter.com/QLvfeQ4P3c
