Fascinating. Since Walmart, Home Depot, et al have third party marketplaces, they would have to eliminate all of their private label products, which would ~double the cost of common household items for poor people. Oh well, it's for their own good. https://medium.com/@teamwarren/heres-how-we-can-break-up-big-tech-9ad9e0da324c …pic.twitter.com/kcxGHt2UVT

Google Search would have to be spun off from Ads but nothing will change w/your search experience. Nevermind that 87% of Google's revenue comes from ads; when you don't need to worry about realities of business, it's easy to imagine how companies will just magically make it work.pic.twitter.com/7pb7nbci3t

FINALLY. Google's acquisition of Waze will be reversed, and only tech nerds who use the obscure Waze app will be able to benefit from less traffic. All of the less-wealthy, less-educated people can go back to sitting in traffic in between jobs.pic.twitter.com/liBeyyDnO1

And I've been waiting 10 years for Amazon's acquisition of........Zappos.........to be undone. What a nightmare that's been, with all the......various.....problems that has caused, which I don't even need to mention because they're so well known.pic.twitter.com/AFEGGTSCmM

Plus, Amazon's acquisition of Whole Foods is a scary threat to Walmart's hegemony on grocery, and maybe even democracy itself. Every percentage of grocery market share that Amazon takes means thousands and thousands more employees making $15 an hour.pic.twitter.com/O8jJfW7Bj9

I'm having a hard time understanding how eliminating Walmart's ability to offer cheap private label products will help prevent an Amazon monopoly.

Warren's plan seems to only apply to "tech" companies, which actually means the Walmarts, Krogers and Home Depots will actually be given an artificial advantage by this. Right?

How would you propose writing that legislation? "A company that sells products online?" (includes Walmart, Kroger, Home Depot) "A company that exclusively sells products online?" (excludes Amazon). Tech companies will change structure to not meet any definition.

It's one thing to have a private-label product, but my understanding of the concern is that Amazon is essentially using it's 3rd-party sellers to find successful brands and start selling those brands directly, cutting out the folks actually taking the risk.

Third party sales growth is outpacing Amazon’s direct sales growth, and now accounts for >50% of GMV with no end in sight.
