you can argue about execution (and it's a valid argument imo), but once properly calibrated, isn't this just amazon squeezing the supply side of the marketplace for the ultimate benefit of the end customer? seems likely to create a better experience, and lower prices at a minimum

It’s a poor but lucrative solution to the problem of incumbent category-leading SKUs / new product discovery, and it’s bad for customers because digital ads get gamed and don’t necessarily surface the best products.
