2/ I think this was the point of @paulg's "Default Alive or Default Dead?" essay. "Don't forget you'll die if something major doesn't change over the next 12-18 months!" (Yes, it's shockingly easy to forget.) With bootstrapping, more like 1-2 months if you don't keep selling.
