Feels like discussion around 70%+ tax rates is motivated by a desire to be punitive — not a desire to actually raise revenue. Especially since all it would accomplish is making emigration a more interesting option for the super rich.

I don’t think correct and punitive are mutually exclusive. FWIW, I’d wager that AOC & co push for the effects you mention in your thread out of a desire to punish evil rich people as much as a desire to reduce inequality. (Old Gawker articles were refreshingly honest about this)

That’s a great thread, but I’d say that’s already happened to most left 20somethings. Bernie supporters shouting about how the game is rigged and weaponizing the “Americans think they’re temporarily embarrassed millionaires” quote absolutely never see themselves becoming wealthy
