Feels like discussion around 70%+ tax rates is motivated by a desire to be punitive — not a desire to actually raise revenue. Especially since all it would accomplish is making emigration a more interesting option for the super rich.
I don’t think it’s punitive. If you believe that rich people are evil and/or income inequality is inherently bad (regardless of absolute numbers), it is probably the correct strategy.

I don’t think correct and punitive are mutually exclusive. FWIW, I’d wager that AOC & co push for the effects you mention in your thread out of a desire to punish evil rich people as much as a desire to reduce inequality. (Old Gawker articles were refreshingly honest about this)
