Once one recognizes that the question is hard, isn’t it likely that a good answer will by necessity require intelligence and creativity?

Or we are at least biased to think that tough questions require such answers, like a student who picks the convoluted answer to a hard question on a multiple choice test: the primary motivation is to answer correctly (even if wrong), not to show off.
