Products that seem like rackets: - plain wastebaskets ($25-$150) - packing boxes ($3-$10) - memory foam mattresses ($400+) These feel like easy-to-make products that cost much more than their raw materials. I'm surprised competition doesn't drive prices down. Other examples?

Literally any kind of furniture. The problem is that they are low volume so they can't be too cheap since you're paying both the fixed and variable costs.
The common denominator in all of these is freight - either heavy, high volume, or both.

Dumbbells (and weights in general) always struck me as appallingly expensive. It’s bulk iron. Always assumed it’s due to high shipping costs bc of weight, but never knew for sure.
