All review sites (Yelp, IMDb, Amazon, etc) suffer from the same flaw: they don’t take taste into account. If someone rates everything 5 stars, their 5-star review shouldn’t mean much. The right question to answer is: “what do people with discerning taste think of this place?”

“The taste of people like me” - I like spicy food and rating sites tend to skew way blander Need cohorting

Core issue then is we need better incentive systems to get people to leave reviews

Core issue is there are like 1000 sociopaths total in the world who are unhinged enough to spend their lives writing reviews, leaving all the comments on every website, starting local organizations of any sort, & all the other crazy shit that makes you ask who has time for that.
