The only thing people love more than democratic representation is authoritarianism against the other team.https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1071115755041800192 …

A subpoena, which she can’t even issue as an individual, is authoritarian?

This is a statement about the supporters, not the politician. Most supporters have no idea how subpoenas work. Cheering on a politician for suggesting a subpoena because the politician didn’t like what the person had to say = cheering on authoritarianism.pic.twitter.com/MSoIE8mmjS

While the behavior you describe is certainly prelavent these days, it takes a pretty little-L liberal interpretation of that tweet to read it that way

I mean this sincerely - what is the other way to read the tweet? It seems like a pretty clear statement: it is unwise to troll someone who has subpoena power over you.pic.twitter.com/SUocdK9CV2

“A member of a body which has subpoena power”. The extra words add the accuracy + nuance which is important on this one. I see where you’re coming from but still think it’s a stretch to interpret it as a threat against speech.

Ah, I see the disconnect now. The key operator for me is “will have subpoena power in a month.” This changed the tone considerably. Congress has subpoena power now; *AOC* will have subpoena power in a month. That framing makes it more of a personal threat.

Along with the closing - “Have fun!” - which ties it back to what he’s saying, not the Mueller investigation.
