Colorado passes Amendment A and officially, finally, in 2018, once-and-for-all, bans slavery in this state.

Note that 35 percent of Colorado voters are opposing Amendment A, which bans slavery. One third of the state.

The wording of Amendment A is pretty clear: “Shall there be an amendment to the CO Constitution that prohibits slavery and involuntary servitude as punishment for a crime and thereby prohibits slavery and I.S. in all circumstances?” 35% of Colorado voted against this.

To recap: Colorado in 2016 was asked if it wanted to ban slavery once and for all. It said no. Many blamed ballot measure's confusing language. So organizers came back this year with clearer wording. They won this time. A whopping 2/3 of Colorado thinks slavery should be illegal.

There was no organized opposition to Amendment A, no outside money spent to beat it. Just good old grassroots support for keeping slavery legal.https://twitter.com/mekajfire/status/1060028617328025600 …

Was there an underground campaign opposing it? Nothing found at https://ballotpedia.org/Colorado_Amendment_A,_Removal_of_Exception_to_Slavery_Prohibition_for_Criminals_Amendment_(2018) … except the official argument: "The measure can be viewed as making a change to the Colorado constitution that is redundant." Nobody in the state senate or congress voted against it.

Come on, you can’t possibly believe that 1/3 of Colorado residents think slavery should be legal. Think about a more plausible explanation for 60 seconds.https://twitter.com/zackkanter/status/1060029422869172224?s=21 …

No, no, no. 🤦🏻‍♂️ 1/3 of voters distrust politics so much that they assume a clearly-worded ballot measure to ban slavery must have some nefarious hidden gotcha underneath it, and they vote against it out of fear of getting screwed. https://twitter.com/swiftonsecurity/status/1060023997038034944 …

That was sarcastic. I don’t believe a third of Colorado supports slavery. I do know a third of Colorado just voted to keep it legal.

I hope you're right. The strongest opposition argument wasn't compelling and there was no obvious organizing against it (https://twitter.com/mekajfire/status/1060028617328025600 …). If the electorate were directly asked "should slavery be illegal?" I'd hope/expect more of the electorate would say yes than 2/3.
