I’m going to stop saying “safe travels.” Travel is safe.
Hard to find aggregate international numbers, but here's an example. Since cars are getting safer every year, it's hard to imagine from a first principles standpoint why the death rate per vehicle-km driven would be increasing. What am I missing?pic.twitter.com/QtKAvK8Y4t

Here is what you are missing. Automobile travel isn't safe, hasn't been safe and in the US is the leading cause of death among young adults. wish your friends safe travels.pic.twitter.com/btycOmEfUX

Those are the absolute # of deaths, which offers no useful information about safety. It's like saying "infant deaths are increasing," without taking into account that the population is increasing. Hard to define "safe," but you can unequivocally say that driving is getting safer.
