Yes, but tempered by the fact that ads are necessary for Google to provide service. Another way of saying this is that ads are Google’s product. Not the same for Amazon.

Ads are what let the vast bulk of new products surface on the platform. Otherwise the algo would always favor old incumbents, problem is when they overwhelm the whole 1st page with them.

Amazon has also made it much to hard to get new reviews to purge on a 12 month basis. For the slower moving products on the site they’d never manage to get more than a dozen without cheating the system.

Amazon has a separate ad product for using their data to advertise on other platforms as well I believe. Is there a breakdown if it’s on-site for a search listing vs. selling your data for targeting?
